Supplement launch checklist: 10 manufacturing decisions before your first run

Ten manufacturing decisions to make before your first supplement production run: format, dose, pack, run size, ingredients, timing, artwork, testing, storage and reorders.

Most delays in a first supplement launch come from manufacturing decisions made late. Settle these ten before you book your first run.

  1. Format. Capsule, tablet, powder, sachet, liquid or cream. See capsules, tablets or powders.

  2. Dose per serve. This decides capsule size, tablet size or scoop size, and the number per day.

  3. Pack and count. Blister or bottle, how many per pack, and the carton. See blister packs or bottles.

  4. First run size. Enough to launch, not so much that stock ages on the shelf. See how minimum orders work.

  5. Ingredients. Who supplies them, and to what specification.

  6. Timing. Work back from your launch date, allowing for packaging lead times.

  7. Artwork and labels. Printed packaging often has the longest lead time.

  8. Testing. What release testing each batch needs before it ships.

  9. Storage and delivery. Where finished stock goes and how.

  10. Reorders. How quickly you can reorder, and whether the same site can scale with you.

Regulatory status, claims and labels are separate decisions for you as the brand owner, ideally with a regulatory consultant.
